The New York City rapper (real name Isis Naija Gaston) is due to drop her first full-length project tomorrow (Friday July 26).
During an interview on Capital XTRA Breakfast this morning (July 25), the star was asked how she was feeling ahead of the full record dropping.
“I think naturally I’ll have like good nerves if anything. I feel like it’s a good thing to be a little nervous, because it means you just care,” she responded.
Ice Spice continued: “I’m so eager to put out the album, I’m really excited. And my fans are really excited, so yeah… it’s like finally here. I’ve been working on it for like a year.”
She was also asked what her plans were for the rest of 2024, to which she replied: “I kind of want to do something that is kind of crazy, but I don’t want to say what it is yet. I feel like people are going to have so many things to say, but if I do it you guys will not miss it.”
When it was put to Ice Spice that she could be “jumping out of a plane”, she explained that her plan was “probably as risky as that”. She added: “That’s all I can really say. But let’s see, let’s see though. I don’t know, I might change my mind. I’m very indecisive.”
The artist went on to talk about working with Central Cee on her recent single ‘Did It First’ and PinkPantheress on last year’s ‘Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2’. She explained that collaborating with UK acts was “just different”.
“I love the accents and just the energy overall – I just love the UK and people from here, I don’t know,” Ice Spice told the station.
“Cent is definitely like super comfortable just recording in [the] studio in front of like whoever. So, I’ve actually seen him record. I don’t think I’ve ever seen PinkPantheress record.”
Earlier this summer, Ice Spice played coy when asked if her former collaborator Taylor Swift would feature on ‘Y2K’: “I don’t know, we’ll see, we’ll see.” The pair worked together on a remix of Swift’s ‘Midnights’ track ‘Karma’.
Ice Spice is set to embark on a North American headline tour next week. Find any remaining tickets here.
‘Y2K’ will follow the Bronx rapper’s January 2023 EP, ‘Like..?’, which featured viral hits including ‘Munch (Feelin’ U)’ and ‘In Ha Mood’. NME awarded that release four stars, with Thomas Smith praising Ice Spice’s sardonic delivery and level-headed confidence.
“The road is still long for Ice Spice, and weathering the post-viral breakout period feels crucial: longevity feels attainable, but casual listeners and even some fans remain fickle,” Smith wrote. “On ‘Like…?’, she appears unbothered about chasing clout or fans – she knows they’ll come around eventually anyway.”
